Issue Paper 3: Locally Selected, Nationally Recognized High School Assesments
This issue paper discusses the flexibility ESSA provides in regards to statewide high school assessment. School districts will have the option to administer a “locally selected,” “nationally recognized” high school assessment, provided the assessment has been approved by the state and peer review. In order for districts to select a high school assessment, the state must establish technical criteria for assessment approval and inform families that an assessment other than the statewide assessment is being administered. Included are discussion questions for the negotiated rulemaking committee members to address.
