National School Public Relations Association Common Core Communication Network
This website contains information and links to resources to help school districts and schools communicate about the Common Core State Standards. Users may search by topic or resource type. All information has been reviewed and highlighted with a goal of helping communicators and leaders to start telling their Common Core story. National School Public Relations Association members have access to all the information provided, while non-members have more limited access.
There are a broad number of resources linked to this web site that could be helpful in promoting the Common Core Standards. But that fact itself suggests a clear orientation in favor of the Common Core, rather than a more objective approach. A major plus is that the web site is one of the few resources that I have come across which is dedicated to communications issues. On the downside, while the web site says that the resources were reviewed, there was one resource that was nothing more than a press release from a commercial test publisher, clearly not an unbiased source. Some of the links didn’t work, which could be a problem over time, and a fair number of resources are repetitive or offer little new information about the Common Core. Users will not likely be pleased that an estimated one-quarter to one-third of the resources are reserved only for members of the sponsoring National School Public Relations Association. Consequently, approval of this resource is marginal, based on the uniqueness of its content and the nice quantity of resources, but users should be cautious.
