Ensuring Educational Stability for Children in Foster Care: An Overview of the ED/HHS Joint Guidance
Staff from the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services presented an overview of the new provisions in the Every Student Succeeds Act that pertains to the education of children in foster care. These provisions address the enrollment and transportation needs of children in foster care, with decisions made in consideration of students’ best interests. Contact information for implementation questions is included. All education stability provisions for children in foster care must be implemented by states by December 10, 2016.
