Ensuring Educational Stability for Children in Foster Care: Transportation Procedures
This presentation provides an overview of the federal framework ensuring stability for students in foster care, with a focus on the Every Student Succeeds Act provisions that are related to transportation. Local education agencies must provide assurances of collaboration with their state or child welfare agencies to develop and implement clear procedures for how students in foster care will be provided transportation, including details on its arrangement and funding. For the duration of time students are in foster care, they must promptly receive transportation in a cost-effective manner consistent with the Fostering Connections Act. In this presentation are examples and lessons from coordinators.
