Next Generation Science Standards Web Seminar Series – By Grade Level
The National Science Teachers Association Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Web Seminar Series offers to the public archives of webinars done “live” between the spring of 2012 and early 2015. This tool provides support for educators to increase their understanding of the standards and their implementation in the classroom.
The webinars are an opportunity for educators to listen to authors and advisors of the NGSS sharing insights about the development and implementation of the standards. Each seminar series emphasizes different topics, from introduction to the standards and each of the three dimensions to specific grade-level examples of educators who have already begun using the standards in their classrooms.
The webinar series has high relevance for educators beginning to implement the standards or seeking tangible examples of their implementation. Professional developers and district personnel may also reference the video examples and resources for each series. During the webinars, links are provided for additional resources. A new window opens with the sample video clip, and a link is also provided for its use. From a historical perspective to a very effective application, each webinar and the entire series will inform audiences at any entry level of knowledge about the NGSS and their vision. Each webinar archive lasts approximately 90 minutes, and can be watched in its entirety, or the user may zoom in to capture essential information needed. The initial setup requires downloading the audio software through Collaborate, with a guided process. The clarity and utility of the webinar window is excellent, allowing the user to make decisions throughout the webinar experience. Worthy of mention is that earlier-date webinars emphasize the development and introduction to the standards, while those from 2014 to 2015 emphasize the standards’ innovative dimensions and their implementation.
