NGSS Adoption and Implementation Workbook
Achieve and the U.S. Education Delivery Institute have developed a practical Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) Adoption and Implementation Workbook for all states. The tool contains guidance, exercises, and templates for teams to use as they work through the critical steps for adoption and implementation of the NGSS. It also includes a diagnostic tool to help assess readiness to implement each step. Regardless of your state’s timeline, the workbook offers state and district leaders the means to plan for NGSS adoption and then drive successful implementation.
Each chapter’s content is aimed to state level stakeholders, but the tools and protocols add value for transference to local implementation efforts.
Ch. 1: Offers a diagnostic tool to address the need for and role of each state’s strategic leadership team in coordinating, driving and monitoring the adoption and implementation of the NGSS.
Ch. 2: Offers a guiding protocol with questions as diagnostic tools for stakeholders to develop a vision for how the NGSS affect students in each state, and to understand requirements of the NGSS through the lens of economics, competition, equity and informed citizenry.
Ch. 3: Offers an opportunity for stakeholders to articulate their state’s vision of the NGSS and to determine the biggest NGSS shifts from relevant data gathering, key performance patterns and the implications for adoption and implementation.
Ch. 4: Offers six exercises with charts and guides for stakeholders to use as diagnostic tools during the implementation of the NGSS
Ch. 5: Offers assistance for state leaders to connect planned actions to expected outcomes as they set targets and trajectories.
Ch. 6: Offers advice and exercises on how to effectively use implementation tools to maximize stakeholder engagement in their respective learning communities.
Ch. 7: Offers a two-prong approach to establish routines and solve problems throughout the implementation of the NGSS.
