State Summative Assessments: 2015-16 School Year
This document, published by the Education Commission of the States, includes a comprehensive chart that provides a snapshot of which assessments are planned in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. for the 2015-16 academic year. Notable for this current school year is that 25 states will administer a state-specific assessment in grades 3-8 math and ELA.
In the revolving door of state assessments, this resource will be obsolete at the end of the school year. Until then, this resource provides an easy-to-read table of state summative assessments. Helpful inclusions are the names of ELA and math summative assessments (for grades 3-8 and 9-11) that states are using in lieu of the Smarter Balanced or PARCC assessments (e.g., Kansas is using an assessment from the Achievement and Assessment Institute at University of Kansas). Another useful feature of this table is information on which states require additional college and career ready assessments (e.g., SAT, ACT) and the grades and subjects of other summative assessments implemented in each state (e.g., Kansas tests science in grades 5, 8, and 11).
