Planned review and revision of academic content standards is a critical endeavor for states and school districts because priorities for instruction shift over time in response to the changing education context at the elementary, secondary, and postsecondary levels. Your content standards must be clear, coherent, consistent, and comprehensive – embodying the rigor needed to prepare students for college and careers.
WestEd provides quality services to help state and local clients undertake this effort. Services include review of standards and/or facilitation, and technical support for educator external review of the standards.
Customized Support
WestEd’s review and revision processes for standards are customized to meet state and local client needs. Our senior researchers work closely with clients to understand those needs, and then design and propose a process to best meet them. The process may include meetings with the client’s staff and stakeholders, and either technical support for educators reviewing the standards or an independent review of standards by WestEd content specialists.
Post-review steps include presentation of findings (e.g., summary reports) and, if relevant, overview of proposed revisions and recommendations.
Trusted Experience
WestEd has provided standards review and revision services to numerous states and districts, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Oregon, and Maricopa County (AZ).
Our work has enabled states and districts to meet research-supported guidelines for the development and implementation of rigorous college- and career-readiness standards that promote effective teaching and valued student learning outcomes.
I have had the pleasure of working with WestEd to assist with two department projects and have found them to be resourceful, professional, and extremely helpful!
WestEd assisted the Colorado Department of Education with its standard review process in 2016 providing us with a standards benchmarking report. WestEd worked closely with us to determine our precise need developing a clear workplan for completing the project on time and within scope.
We recently engaged with WestEd through the Comprehensive Center Network to support the work of a Media Literacy Advisory Committee. WestEd went above and beyond to providing a review of the state’s standards with respect to media literacy and suggestions for committee actions. WestEd also provided a review of media literacy programs for the committee’s consideration. I highly recommend this team!”
