Assessment (Chapter 8 of the English Language Arts/English Language Development Framework for California Public Schools)
From the introduction: “This chapter describes the scope of assessment and its skilled use to support student achievement of the CA CCSS for ELA/Literacy and the CA ELD Standards – and ultimately the overarching goals of ELA/literacy instruction: students develop the readiness for college, careers, and civic life; attain the capacities of literate individuals; become broadly literate; and acquire the skills necessary for living and learning in the 21st century.”
This chapter provides in-depth and comprehensive information on assessment systems as they apply to ELA/Literacy and ELD. Its user-friendly approach to describing short-, medium-, and long-term cycle assessments should be helpful for educators at all levels. This document also consistently communicates how English Learners can be served within these assessment settings. For classroom assessments, various vignettes are provided to illustrate how assessment can be enacted at different grade levels.
