Building a Plan for Higher Education to Implement the Smarter Balanced Assessment System
This document’s goal is to provide “guidance for state higher education leaders on one crucial aspect of implementation: the role that state systems of higher education must play to build toward recognition of the Smarter Balanced [Assessment Consortium] assessment as evidence that students are ready for entry-level, credit-bearing courses and should be exempted from remediation in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics.”
This lucid document outlines elements to consider in higher education implementation of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium’s (Smarter Balanced) assessment. The document clearly states and meets its goals; however, it does not address funding or the resources that may be necessary for implementation.
