Common Themes, Individual Approaches: Six States’ Experiences with New Science Standards
This report focuses on the challenge of modifying current science standards or adopting the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). It provides an overview of how five states (Arkansas, Delaware, Kentucky, New Jersey, and West Virginia) and the District of Columbia utilized National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) stipends to support their science standards work.
This very short report reviews the strategies and activities utilized in adopting new policies and regulations related to the implementation of NGSS. It notes common practices related to communication strategies, connections to state policy makers, and roles of state boards of education in the multi-year efforts.
