Dear Colleague Letter on Foster Care Guidance – June 23, 2016
In this letter, the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education and the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services draw attention to the Title I foster care provisions of the Every Student Succeeds Act. Local education agencies must develop collaborative procedures with state and local child welfare agencies to address how education for students in foster care will be provided, arranged, and funded. The academic achievement and graduation rates of students in foster care must be reported annually as a separate subgroup as part of data reporting.
