Education Department Releases Proposals for Consideration by ESSA Negotiated Rulemaking Committee (Press Release)
The U.S. Department of Education has sent updated proposals to the ESSA Negotiated Rulemaking Committee in advance of the committee’s April 6-8, 2016 meeting. These proposals have been updated based on input from the March committee meeting. In this April session, the committee will focus on language pertaining to the following issues: Title I, Part A assessments, and the requirement that federal Title I-A funds supplement, not supplant, state and local resources. The goal is to ensure that these proposals ensure that statewide assessments are valid, reliable, fair, and of high technical quality, as well as accessible for all students. In reviewing these proposal, the Negotiated Rulemaking Committee will make sure that the Department’s proposed language is consistent with ESSA.
