Ensuring Educational Stability for Children in Foster Care: Education and Child Welfare Points of Contact (PowerPoint Presentation)
This powerpoint provides an overview of the federal framework ensuring stability for students in foster care, with a focus on the Every Student Succeeds Act provisions related to educational and child welfare points of contact (POCs). States must provide assurance that they will designate a POC for child welfare agencies, and local education agencies must provide assurance that they will designate a POC for the corresponding child welfare agency, if the child welfare agency has designate a POC and provided written notice of such to the local education agency. This presentation includes lessons from field from Colorado and Pennsylvania.
