Every Student Succeeds Act High School Graduation Rate Non-Regulatory Guidance

With the implementation of ESSA comes updated requirements regarding the calculation and reporting of high school graduation rates in order to produce a uniform and accurate measure of states’ four-year high school graduation rates. Each state and local education agency must calculate and report a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate, disaggregated by subgroup, as well as long-term goals and measures of interim progress related to high school graduation. This guidance clarifies how the four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate is to be calculated, as well as addresses issues related to implementation and reporting of the adjusted cohort graduation rate.
