Implementing the Common Core State Standards: The Role of the Secondary School Leader Action Brief

This series of action briefs was developed by Achieve and their partner organizations to help provide guidance to elementary school leadership, middle school leadership, and school counselors concerning implementation of the Common Core State Standards. The briefs discuss these Standards, the instructional shifts they represent, detail the schoolwide changes necessary to the implementation (including bulleted action steps), and provides resources for stakeholders to utilize during this change process.

Content Comments

These action briefs provide clearly articulated progression through key action steps and talking points for school leaders to take with various audiences, including staff and parents. They provide a well-articulated summary of CCSS goals along with content area and implications for school counselors. While not a full guidance document, these briefs did present thoughtful action steps for school counselors, and potentially other staff who do not play a primary role in student instruction.
