Instructional Practice Guide: Lesson Planning – ELA
<! -- /.resource-content -->
The Lesson Planning Tool (digital version only) guides teachers through a series of prompts about lesson content, structure, and activities to ensure that the shifts required by the CCSS are central to the lesson. English language arts teachers will be guided through the process of creating a close-reading lesson. These lessons can be easily shared with a coach in advance of a non-evaluative observation focused on Common Core-aligned classroom instruction.
This lesson-planning tool is well designed to assist teachers with planning lessons that incorporate all the shifts in new ELA standards. Beyond providing space to fill in and assemble information about the lesson components, it provides helpful information at each stage in the lesson planning process to support professional learning about the new standards, components of a close reading lesson, and learners at various levels.
