The Stanford History Education Group has created the Reading Like a Historian curriculum and related guidance materials. There are lessons to introduce students to historical reading practices (e.g., sourcing, corroboration), as well as lessons that incorporate these practices to address historical events. The United States history curriculum, for example, includes 71 lessons in 11 units. Each lesson is organized around a set of documents and guiding historical inquiry question. The lessons include guidance on how to model historical thinking practices and support students’ reading of the documents. The lessons help teachers understand how to incorporate historical reading practices and primary sources as part of history instruction.
